Visual Art Programs

The art program offers students various outlets to be creative and have fun while participating in the art creation process;  learning about visual art techniques and artists.

Adaptive aids may be provided to help in the creation process, our goal is for each student to have independence with their art making. With the use of materials such as paints, crafts  and clay, projects are created that provide visual, auditory and tactile enrichment.

The curriculum is designed by the art teacher to accommodate the special needs of all participants.

Benefits Include:

Creative Encounters
Creative encounters describes an artistic interaction where participants bring their individual skills and share in the act of creation.

Inclusion
Special-needs students interact with other students in the art studio. Instructors give feedback in the presentation of students' art among their peers.

Emotional Expression
Art allows for emotional expression, which benefits all students. Other academic subjects do not provide an outlet for emotion.

Discipline Integration
Arts integration provides a platform for learning other subjects. History can be role-played among special-needs students. Dance can provide physical activity. Natural science is absorbed in tracing different kinds of tree leaves.

Positive Interactions
Art integration benefits special-needs students by fostering creativity. Creative encounters balance the power structure of teacher and student.
Teachers are dependent upon the engagement of their students for progression into the next phase of an art project.
