Sign dance incorporates the American Sign Language with choreographed dance steps. Admired within both the Deaf community and among the Hearing community, BASAC uses sign dance for many disabilities that rely on ASL to communicate, such as Autism.
Sign language is not complete and cannot be well understood without the help of expression. Expression places emphasis on words, changes the meaning of words, and it can be the meaning of words. Like sign language, dancing contains expression as well. Without it you would be stiff, and find difficulty conveying the emotion within the piece. With expression being the common ground linking sign language and dancing, the deaf culture developed a dance style that speaks volumes-- Sign Dance. Benefits include:
